What is management?
Management lets ICOM securely and wirelessly configure devices by sending profiles and commands to your iPad. Management capabilities include updating software and device settings, monitoring compliance with organizational policies and remotely wiping or locking devices.
What needs to happen
To transfer ownership of the iPad from ICOM to you, ICOM must unmanage the device. Your iPad must be erased so you will need to consider how to save your data.
- You will not be able to restore your device from a traditional iCloud or iTunes backup since this will restore the management.
To save your data stored on the iPad, you will need to back your data up somewhere where you can redownload files after erasing your device. We recommend you save files to a Google Drive.
Deadline
- May 1 - You can begin submitting requests to IT to have your iPad released from ICOM management applications (your iPad will need to be released BEFORE you erase it)
- May 20 - The deadline for releasing your iPad. On this day, all iPads that have not previously been released will be released from management.
- May 20-22 - If you need any help with erasing and resetting your iPad, you may schedule a time with IT on one of these days.
What to do before your iPad is released
- Save the files you want to keep to external/cloud storage. We recommend saving them to a personal Google Drive account if you have enough storage. You may also choose to use your ICOM Google Drive account. Please keep in mind that your ICOM Google account will be deleted 90 days after graduation.*

What to do once your iPad is released from management
Wait until May 20 or after you have IT approval before you perform these steps
- Be sure you have signed out of your Apple ID (Settings > YOUR NAME > Sign Out)
- Erase all content and settings (Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPad > Erase All Content and Settings
- If you choose to set up your device again, sign back into your personal Apple ID and download content as needed. (DO NOT SET UP FROM AN iCLOUD BACKUP)
- If you set up an Apple ID with your ICOM email address, you will need to associate a different email address before your email is disabled. For help changing the email associated with your Apple ID: Change your Apple ID
